E' ufficiale, Death Note si farà, ma con Logan Lerman

E' all'incirca dal 2007 che si rincorrono le voci su di un possibile remake yankee del live movie del 2006 basato sul popolarissimo manga Death Note di Tsugumi Ohba e Takeshi Obata. Sembrava che i diritti occidentali per la realizzazione del film fossero andati alla Vertigo, già responsabile di mediocri remake americani di film asiatici come The Eye e Dark Water, ma l'anno scorso la Warner, già produttrice e distributrice dei film dal vivo giapponesi con protagonisti Ken'ichi Matsuyama e Tatsuya Fujiwara, ha messo in chiaro che i diritti erano in mano loro. Da allora, il silenzio, se non la leggenda metropolitana che voleva, in virtù della mera somiglianza fisica, la star di High School Musical Zack Efron come protagonista del film, nei panni del geniale quanto ossessionato Light Yagami. Arriva ora, nel pieno del tumulto dei nuovi annunci Warner, un nuovo comunicato stampa, che vi riportiamo integralmente in calce alla notizia:

In pratica, mixando le info provenienti dal press release con gli insiders rivelati da Hollywood Report, siamo in grado di dirvi che Warner aveva il film già in pre-produzione l'anno scorso, come dimostra la concept art relativa al personaggio di Misa Misa che potete ammirare qui sotto. La produzione si è fermata, però, davanti alle numerose proteste dei fan relative anche alle sole voci che circolavano da tempo. Per evitare un effetto "Dragon Ball Evolution" assolutamente deleterio (la Warner sta cercando a tutti i costi nuovi franchise da spingere, una volta esaurito il fenomeno Harry Potter, e non può permettersi passi falsi con marchi di richiamo come Death Note) ha quindi fatto marcia indietro e dato il copione precedentemente scritto dai fratelli Vlas e Charles Parlapanides in mano a David Benioff, fautore di buone riscritture quali "Il cacciatore di aquiloni" e "Brothers".

Si dice, addirittura (ma la notizia non proviene da fonti ufficiali) che lo stesso Christopher Nolan, che per ora fa il bello e il cattivo tempo per "meriti acquisiti sul campo" supervisionerà l'intero progetto (insieme ad altri che la Warner sta preparando ma sono ancora misteriosi), avendo nelle sue corde storie dense di mistero e thriller proprio come Death Note, seppur non curandone la regia. Che difatti, per scongiurare il "pericolo" di un'eccessiva americanizzazione del tutto e per far più contenti i puristi, sarà diretto da un regista giapponese, Kenta Fukasaku, figlio del compianto Kinji e co-regista insieme a lui di Battle Royale II.

Sono stati inoltre resi noti gli attori dei tre ruoli principali: Light Yagami, L, e Misa Amane, interpretati rispettivamente da Logan Lerman (recentemente salito alla ribalta grazie a Percy Jackson e Gamer, decisamente somigliante alla controparte cartacea ma con doti recitative decisamente migliori di quelle di Efron), Joseph Gordon Levitt (protagonista di 500 Giorni Insieme, se lo avete visto all'opera effettivamente noterete l'ottima mimica con cui potrebbe -il condizionale è d'obbligo in questi casi- rendere l'espressività del bizzarro detective L) e infine Mirai Shida, giovane idol nipponica che gli otaku dei tokusatsu (i telefilm "alla Power Rangers"), ben conoscono per la sua partecipazione in un film della serie Kamen Raider. E lo "shinigami" Ryuk? In computer graphic, naturalmente. E, ancora più naturalmente, il film sarà visionabile, cavalcando la moda del momento, anche in 3D. Difficile sbilanciarsi, al momento, sulle potenzialità del prodotto; finalmente si gioca a carte scoperte, ma la fine del gioco, a quanto pare, è ancora lontana: il film comincerà ad essere girato a Vancouver solo a novembre di quest'anno, per una release prevista a cavallo di Halloween 2011.

We hereby announce that VIZ Media, LLC (VIZ Media) and Warner Bros Entertainment (WBE) have reached agreement for the realisation of the so long awaited american remake of succesful manga and japanese movie "Death Note", published in the United States and Mexico by the respective companies.The announcement was jointly made by Hidemi Fukuhara, President and CEO of VIZ Media and Jeff Brown, WBE Executive Vice President and General Manager, TV, Family and Animation.

Production will begin November 19th on the upcoming Warner Bros. Thriller Death Note, starring Logan Lerman, Joseph Gordon Levitt and Mirai Ishida and directed by Kenta Fukasaku. The film is scheduled for a Oct. 31, 2011 release.

Death Note revolves around Shinigami, death gods that own notebooks called "Death Notes" which are used as killing devices. Whoever's name they write down in a death note will die within 40 seconds. Shinigami Ryuk dropped his Death Note in the human world where it's found by honor high school student Light Yagami (Logan Lerman). With the death note actually having directions in it for its use, Light discovers he now has the power to discreetly kill people, and with this new power he plans to change the world in his ideal world by killing off criminals. Eventually the governments of the countries around the world notice the unusual amounts of deaths of their criminals, and figure out someone is behind them, but they have no way of discovering it themselves. That's when they hire L (Joseph Gordon Levitt ), a master detective, to find out who is behind the murders.

The film's supporting cast includes Mirai Ishida as Misa Amane, self-ploclamed Light's fianceé and possessor of another Death Note. Lishida is a young and talented japanese actress, well known in Asia for her roles in movies like "Spring Snow" and Kamen Rider 555 Paradise Lost, as well as in tv shows and commercials.

Death Note is being directed by Kenta Fukasaku (Battle Royale II: Requiem, Under the same moon, X-Cross) from a screenplay by Vlas and Charles Parlapanides and David Benioff (25th Hour, The kite runner, Brothers). It is being produced by Deborah Snyder, overseen for the studio by New Line production executives Cale Boyter and Sam Brown.
